It begins…officially!

So, it’s been about a little over a week since we officially got the go-ahead for the Link to sponsor a hackathon. No big whoop, just hoping to bring together all the people with disabilities, older adults and techies in Philadelphia for some ultimate problem solving. Ok, well maybe not all [setting the bar to realistic], but a lot…and it would be great to have a positive impact that is far reaching. So far, I’m meeting and talking with people who are super jazzed about the project. It’s making me even more excited. A couple days ago, we met with the wonderful Mark Headd and Stacey Mosley. We could see the gears start going with these guys right away. They offered some great insights into world of technology in Philadelphia, which I feel like I have been living next to, but not actually in. All of this is helping me to see the growing relevance of technology in any field. Gone are the days where the IT department worked in a silo. Technology is a runaway bus, with everyone on board. I am loving that we are learning where we’re going. The next day, I had the fortune of talking with two people who are clearing the way. Tom Panzarelli from Love Park Robotics is pairing autonomous driving capabilities with wheelchairs.  Austin Seraphin is a user expert in echolocation to navigate environments.  Yes, it is exactly what it sounds like and it is amazing.
